ESL–English as a Second Language

This is a class for people who want to improve their English.  Instruction includes vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and social usage. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are all utilized, but the emphasis is on conversational English–being able to communicate effectively in English.  Instruction takes place in classroom settings, group activities, individual conversation, real life situations, and tutoring.

During the life of the ESL school, we plan to teach two TESOL schools.  The TESOL students will work with the ESL students in groups and individually.  Thus, the ESL student learns to communicate in a variety of situations and with a variety of English-speaking people.

This is immersion-style teaching.  The students are engaged in English-learning activities all day, five days a week, for twelve weeks.

Prerequisites:  none
